My Second Project - La Couronne II

On November 24, 2008 I posted these shots of my second scratch build....
La Couronne II

Compared to the first model, I would say this is a considerable improvement.

Here are the two models together.

My first lesson in scale.

The scale of the second model is about 1:100.....or about 25% larger than the first version.

Detail becomes considerably easier with larger scale....
BIGGER IS BETTER.
Hmmmm
Did I learn something here?

Building Log....

 Wrapping up the hull planking....

My first tree nailed deck.  Also, I actually used black thread to caulk the deck planks.  Looking back, I probably should have stuck with that method as it looks much cleaner than pencil line caulking.

Carvings on the poop deck bulkheads....

Cannon rigging detail....first attempt at rigging cannon trucks properly.

Stern carvings are slightly better than the first.
Rail stanchions are more ornate.
Quarter galleries much more detailed.
Bow shot

After a year of practicing on the two La Couronnes, I was pleased to be finished and was now completely HOOKED on the art.
Ready to move on to something a little more challenging....
The HMS Victory....
